Automobili Lamborghini returned to Monterey Car Week in style: the next generation Countach LPI 800-4 debuted globally at The Quail, A Motorsports Gathering, thus celebrating the legendary Countach’s 50th anniversary and V12 heritage.
The Countach LPI 800-4, an emblem of the brand’s past and future, was unveiled to a crowd of 5,000 guests by Stephan Winkelmann, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Automobili Lamborghini. It harnesses a naturally-aspirated V12 engine and an electric motor delivering a maximum combined power of 814 cv and top speed of 221 miles per hour. A visionary masterpiece of the brand’s future, the Countach LPI-800-4 continues to bring forth the renowned design of the Countach from the 1970s. Only 112 units will be made, signifying the ‘LP 112’ nomenclature used during the original Lamborghini Countach’s development.
The Countach LPI 800-4 debuted alongside the North American premieres of the Aventador LP 780-4 Ultimae and Essenza SCV12. The all-new race-inspired Huracán STO was also on display at the annual motorsport celebration.
Additionally, more than 200 of the finest collector cars were on display at The Quail, including a 1978 Lamborghini LP400 Countach Periscopio. That model is just one of the 150 Periscopio cars produced by Lamborghini and it recently underwent a complete restoration.
To further enhance the magical atmosphere of the Lamborghini world in the midst of the exclusivity of the pinnacle of automotive events, The Lamborghini Lounge Monterey welcomed Lamborghini owners, VIPs, media and friends to an immersive brand experience and offered an exclusive look into the world of Lamborghini as it celebrates the 50th anniversary of the iconic Countach. The luxurious villa outpost hosted a dedicated Ad Personam customization room and live sketching by the designers of the Centro Stile.
The Lounge features a display of the latest product innovations highlighting the latest and greatest from the brand. Amidst the array of new V12 special edition models are also Huracán STO and Huracán EVO RWD Spyder, as well as the Super SUV Urus Capsule Collection.
The Lamborghini Countach received the honor of having a dedicated class at the 70th Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance in California. Eight Countaches were on display.
The class was won by the 1981 Countach LP 400 S, chassis #1121316, owned by Robert Bishop of Florida, USA, one of the only 82 units built of the third series. Second place went to the Countach LP 400 “Periscopio” of 1976, chassis #1120192, today owned by Mouse Motor of Illinois, USA, one of the only 152 “Periscopio” units produced and today still in its totally original condition and with its initial yellow paintwork. The third-place title went to the 1985 Countach 5000 Quattrovalvole, chassis #ZA95005AOFLA12820, today owned by US collector Jeffrey Ajiuni of Maryland, featuring a Rosso Siviglia (red) exterior, Champagne interior and Marrone Testa di Moro (brown) dashboard.
Sitting on the panel of the Concours d’Elegance as Honorary Judges were Lamborghini’s Stephan Winkelmann, Chairman & CEO, and Mitja Borkert, Head of Design:
“The Countach redefined the segment of high-performance cars and became an icon in terms of stylistic language that still today guides the making of contemporary Lamborghinis. The Pebble Beach Concours is the perfect setting to celebrate the 50th anniversary of this legendary car,” said Stephan Winkelmann. “The class dedicated to the Countach’s 50-year history in Pebble Beach was a great honor and allowed me to appreciate how much fans are filled with a desire to live and to start again so as to return, as soon as possible, to normality, and to note that an enormous amount of enthusiasm surrounds our brand, for both the new cars and the vintage cars.”
