LAMBORGHINI PRESENTS ITS FIRST ESPORTS TEAM

Lamborghini has presented its first eSports Team for the most important virtual races dedicated to sim racing. Fruit of the considerable experience it has gained with “The Real Race”, the creation of the Team is one more opportunity to expand the brand’s visibility in a sector enjoying continuous development and that lets users experience emotions comparable to those of a real race.

Giorgio Sanna, Head of Automobili Lamborghini Motorsport, commented on the launch of the new project with enthusiasm: “For us, sim racing is an additional tool for developing a few key aspects of the real races, such as managing car set-ups and several software programs that will play an important role in our brand’s future”.

The three sim drivers selected to represent Lamborghini are Jordan Sherratt, Gianfranco Giglioli and Giorgio Simonini.

Sherratt, a South African born in 1999, is a big fan of the Lamborghini brand, and he earned his place on the eSports team precisely thanks to his success in the latest edition of “The Real Race”. There he won a good 15 races out of 17. The 24-year-old Italo-Venezuelan driver Gianfranco Giglioli on the other hand was one of the top virtual drivers to participate in Formula 1 Esports Series championship, making a name for himself in 2020 in both the first edition of “The Real Race” and in the Porsche Esports Carrera Cup Italia. Lastly, the young Italian rising star, Giorgio Simonini, 22, boasts first place in the SimGrid World Cup 2020 and fourth place in the SRO Esports 2020 championship.

Sherrat and Giglioli will race together in the GT World Challenge Esports Sprint Series Europe, while Simonini will join the pair to form the team that will take part in the Intercontinental GT Challenge Esports 2022 endurance championship. The Sprint calendar is made up of five races and will begin on April 6 with the Misano race. The last appointment is set for August 3 with the grand finale scheduled in the virtual version of the Monza Circuit. The Intercontinental GT Challenge Esports will instead start on April 16 with the famous 12 Hours of Bathurst and will also come to an end after five appointments on August 27 with the 9 Hours of Kyalami.

Lastly, Lamborghini has confirmed “The Real Race” also for 2022. The dates of the third edition of the brand’s one-make eSports championship will be made official in the upcoming weeks.
