Did you think you already knew everything about the Lamborghini Huracán STO? Well, you don’t. So we’re taking care of this with our new monthly format Focu5on, where we reveal to you fun facts, anecdotes and insights about Lamborghini products and projects, starting with the road-homologated super sports car inspired by Lamborghini race cars.
Thanks to its V10 naturally-aspirated 640 CV (470 kW) power plant that produces 565 Nm at 6,500 rpm and a weight to power ratio of 2.09 kg/CV, the rear-wheel drive Huracán STO delivers acceleration rates of 0-100 km/h in 3.0 seconds and 0-200 km/h in 9.0 seconds, a top speed of 310 km/h, and braking from 100 km/h to 0 in 30.0 meters. All this, combined with the motorsports design of its superior aerodynamics, lightweight materials and unfettered steering, make this super sports car a breathtaking drive.
But you know all this already. So, let’s dive in…
The term Cofango comes from the fusion of two Italian words: cofano (hood) and parafango (fender), coined by Automobili Lamborghini to describe the design solution in which the hood, fenders and front bumper are integrated into a single component. This innovative system created by Lamborghini engineers is inspired by the Lamborghini Miura and the more recent Sesto Elemento, and on the STO is made entirely of very light carbon fiber. The key for opening the fastenings on the STO’s Cofango is unique, and it was developed in-house by the R&D team and made using an innovative 3D printing technique.
There is not much that can be changed in three seconds, but the set-up of the Huracan STO is one. Three new driving modes – STO (normal driving), Trofeo (race mode) and Pioggia (rain or wet) – adapt the set-up of the car to match high-performance driving environments. The Huracán STO allows the driver to experience a dynamic pit stop, as if a team of mechanics were right there!
Lamborghini’s R&D team drove a distance equivalent to three times around the world in simulator tests before starting the Huracán STO’s road tests. State-of-the-art simulator technology allowed Lamborghini engineers to save time on quality control, lead times, and emissions by verifying that every part of the car fully complied with standards during different stages of the STO’s development, certifying and testing.
“Do you want to build a Huracán STO 1:1?”. It will take a lot of patience, because there are over 2,750 components needed to build the latest car from Sant’Agata.
The Huracán STO is equipped with a telemetry system with a level of connectivity never seen before in a Lamborghini. The entire system links car, cameras and the UNICA App (dedicated to Lamborghini customers). New widgets have been included to create graphics and a driving experience that are 100% racing-oriented. The IT development of this technology on the UNICA App required more than 25,000 lines of code.
