HURACÁN STO: THE “COFANGO”

One of the elements that make the Huracán STO one of a kind is the signature Lamborghini “cofango.” The term is a hybrid between the Italian words for “cofano” (“hood”) and “parafango” (“fender”), and it refers to the single piece in the car that incorporates these two areas.

In the STO, the cofango contributes to the much lighter weight (-43kg compared to the Huracán Performante) and enhances the vehicle’s superior aerodynamics performance.
New air ducts on the front bonnet increase the airflow through the central radiator, allowing for engine cooling as well as helping generate downforce. The new front splitter directs airflow to the newly designed underbody of the car and to the rear diffuser. Furthermore, the cofango is designed to push the airflow on top of the front fenders: these incorporate louvers to maximize airflow exiting from the wheelhouse, reducing pressure inside and increasing the front downforce.
Made of carbon fiber for maximum lightness, the cofango allows to forgo joints, rivets, and any superfluous component.

Of the Huracán STO, Maurizio Reggiani, Automobili Lamborghini’s Chief Technical Officer, says: “The extensive technical solutions and intelligence gained from both our Super Trofeo and GT3 programs has been refined and embodied in the Huracán STO, allowing the pilot to experience the emotions of a racing driver, daily, in a road-legal Lamborghini super sports car able to take lap records.”
